Call for BCIA Board Nominations
The Board Development Committee is now accepting nominations for candidates to serve as Board members of BCIA.
The BCIA Board of Directors is comprised of twelve individuals representing the following constituencies: artisan manufacturer (one-person operation), large manufacturer (over $1 mil/yr revenue), small manufacturer (less than $1 mil/yr), components/accessories manufacturers, online retailers, brick and mortar retailers, educators, related businesses/non-profits. In addition, BCIA works to represent various international constituencies and skill sets.
In the 2011 election, BCIA members will elect four board members, with preference given to the following categories:
- company headquarters in UK, NZ, AU, and FR, in that order (these are areas of high/growing membership and/or strategic growth areas)
- experience in membership management and public relations
- experience in fundraising, planning/project management, graphic design, web programming
- companies representing one of these types: artisan manufacturer (one-person operation), large manufacturer (over $1 mil/yr revenue), small manufacturer (less than $1 mil/yr), related business/components/accessories
- male (the board is currently all female)

All Nominees for Consideration
The Committee requests the following information on those individuals brought forth for consideration:
- name and contact information, including industry experience
- a statement from the person nominating or the individual being nominated outlining the reasons for the nomination/wanting to serve and outlining what he or she can contribute to the organization, with special emphasis on the criteria mentioned above
The Board Development Committee will review all submissions and their qualifications. The Committee uses a matrix of skills held by current board members to assist with identifying nominees with complementary skills and abilities. No prior board experience is necessary.
Performance Expectations
Board member duties include:
- Regularly attend board meetings (monthly) and important related meetings.
- Chair or be Board Liaison for at least one committee or working group.
- Volunteer for and willingly accept assignments and complete them thoroughly and on time.
- Stay informed about board matters, prepare well for meetings, review and comment on minutes and reports.
- Get to know other board members and build a collegial working relationship that contributes to consensus.
- Actively participate in the board's annual evaluation and planning efforts.
Deadlines and Submissions
The deadline for receipt of information on potential candidates is close of business on August 9th, 2011. Please forward all the necessary information electronically to
director@babycarrierindustryalliance.org, subject “Board Nominations”.
Ballots will be distributed to the membership electronically the week of August 15th, 2011.
Results will be announced at the annual member meeting, September 25th, during the ABC Expo in Louisville, Kentucky, as well as by email that same week. The board executive committee will also be elected at that meeting by current board members.
